Bruce Springsteen may include Benidorm in his next Spanish tour

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

bruce-springsteen.jpg

I hope they confirm this soon, it would be just incredible news for Costa Blanca fans of the “Boss”. According to what I read in the El perdiodico article, Bruce Springsteen is thinking about a new European tour and Benidorm would be one of the stops.

It seems, the awesome American rocker loved his latest stay in Spain and might plan a return soon. The fans would be very delighted just at the thought of having him here, as was shown in Barcelona.

For now he has confirmed a total of 19 concerts in Europe, but there are open dates still to be filled. The nights between the 11th of July (Helsinki) and the 17th of July (Madrid).

With a little luck, the dates for Spain will be set soon. San Sebastian, Benidorm and Palma de Mallorca are among the strong candidates. The concert would take place anywhere from September on.

Prince will not perform in Benidorm; City Hall settles the polemic issue

Friday, November 9th, 2007

One of the news of this summer was the possibility that Prince would offer a concert in Benidorm. The news was advertised all over the place and although little by little it started to dilute like sugar in coffee.

Benidorm City Hall still insists that the problem with the cancellation of the anticipated Prince concert is the responsibility of the promoter of the event, Group Dux S.L.

The promoter sent writing to the Consistory where it indicated that, “despite the arduous negotiations so that Prince should act in Benidorm, the artist has decided to postpone his European tour after the concerts celebrated in London “.

The mayor of Benidorm, Manuel Pérez Fenoll, announced last June 8th, in a multitudinous press conference, that municipality of Alicante was going to welcome the only European concert of Prince outside the United Kingdom, and dated the performance for August 25th.

Nevertheless, soon it was proved that there were ticket sales for a Prince concert in London for the same date, and that is when the postponement of the performance promised was announced.

The promoter has admitted that it is “impossible” to bring the artist to Spain “after the commitment that they had acquired to do it “.

Nevertheless, they have added that they have kept negotiations open with the representatives of Prince so that, in case the European tour was resumed and that it included Spain, that Benidorm would be considered.

The Alicante Principal Theatre turns 160 years old

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Teatro-Principal.jpg

One of the most referent cultural structures in the Costa Blanca is turning 160 years old. I’m talking about the Principal Theatre in Alicante and it will celebrate this event with a lyrical gala of opera, zarzuela, choirs, the Azahar baler and the collaboration of the Chapi symphonic orchestra of Chapi.

This event will take place the 25th of September at 8 pm with entrances costing between 20 and 40 euros. The program will combine fragments of operas such as Carmen by Bizet, Puccini´s La Boheme, as well as zarzuelas such as La patria chica of Chapi and Penella´s El gato montés.

The Rabino Choir, the Magdala Choir, the Azahar ballet and the Chapi theatre orchestra of Villena under the direction of José Alberto Fernández, will contribute to this very special night.

With this gala, the principal theatre will host homage to those alicantinos which in the middle of the XIX century had the idea to create a great coliseum that will bring joy to the city. The proyect to build the theatre was initiated by the architect Emilio Jover with the donation of the land offered by the city hall. Its construction began in 1846 and was inaugurated on the 25th of September of 1847 with the representation of the very romantic work of “Guzmán el Bueno”,  by Antonio Gil y Zárate.

Prince´s concert is still up in the air

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

Even though the Benidorm City Hall announced that Prince will perform in August, no one still knows if the Minneapolis artist will actually be there.

If Prince does come to Spain he will perform in Benidorm although it might be another promoter not Dux Music, the initiator who was to organize the concert, who brings the artist.

A spokesperson for Dux Music confirmed they are still working on getting the artist to perform in Benidorm. Although the City Hall has said if Prince does not perform they will find other alternatives.
