Agres is one of the most picturesque mountain towns situated in the Sierra de Mariola, north of the province of Alicante. The population of this town does not exceed 700 habitants, which translates in to an escape from the big city life
Although it is considered a small town there is much to see and contemplate here like, the parish church of San Miguel, the Sanctuary of La Mare de Déu del Castell (also known as the convent), and various fountains called: La font del Mig; La Fonteta; La Font de Baix; La Font del Raval, La Font de L’Assut y la Font del Convent in which every visitor must stop and take a sip of water from each one.
Agres is a place where time has stood still. It still conserves in perfect conditions a public laundry area where even today there are women who go there to clean their clothes. One must visit this place slowly to be able to enjoy all it offers. With typical dishes such as Arroz caldoso con judías, cardos y nabos (rice with different types of beans) a day in Agres is a must.

Guadalest, a small village of Islamic origin with a population of 200 people is an excursion that needs to be made. The town was conquered by Jaime I and given to Vidal de Sarria whose family owned it up until 1335 and then later to Prince Pedro of Aragon. Once here you are transported to the past and are overwhelmed with the history and sights.
There is a lot to see in this tiny town that you can’t miss. Guadalest is first known for its ‘castle’, which is literally hanging on he cliff where it is found. The street leading you to the castle is called De La Pena, along the way you will see the most outstanding scenery of white-washed houses with flower pots that decorate each one as well as all the variety of craft shops that offer unique gifts and keepsakes. The hike to the castle is a little steep but once at the top you will never come down.
There are also numerous museums such as: Museum of Ribera Girona, a contemporary museum, Museum of doll houses, Ethnological Museum of the Valley of Guadalest and Museum of Miniatures of Manuel Ussa where you can see the Statue of Liberty in the hole of a needle and more.
