According to information provided by the National Statistic Institute, eight out of every ten inhabitants from the Alicante region of Marina Baixa live in one of the five beach cities, such as Benidorm, Vila Joiosa, Mallow, LÁfas del Pi and Finestrat.

Since the year 2000 the coast has registered 31,517 new inhabitants, whereas the mountain region which includes 13 municipalities including The Nucia and Polop only registered 8,641 more, hence the growth is 3.6 times superior in the areas that are already more populated.
