The orient comes to Alicante

From the 20th of September through the 29th of the same month, the Principal Theatre in Alicante welcomes the XXIII edition of the Alicante Music Festival. This year the edition is dedicated to Asian music and will count with the participation of musicians from Japan, China, Vietnam, Korea or Indonesia among others.

More than 900 circus artists will visit Alicante this weekend

This weekend Alicante will be a circus thanks to the fourth edition of the circus encounter that will reunite around 900 artists.This initiative will begin today and end on Sunday, and will be composed of street performances, workshops and a grand gala of circus artist, that will be celebrated in the outskirts of the University of Alicante.

The street show will take place around the plaza de la viña and the workshops will be at the UA.

Dionisio Gázquez exhibits in the Lonja del Pescado of Alicante

Today I recommend a great exhibition of painting and simples for those of you here in Alicante. It is an exhibition of the artist Dionisio Gázquez, who will show his works in La Lonja del Pescado of Alicante, about 250 of his creations of the last 30 years.

This retrospective called: exploration plástica (1970-2007)’ can be seen until the 28th of October. The exhibition is very interesting, because you will be able to see the artist evolution during the last decades.

Resuming 30 years of a career in jus one showing is a little complicated. But this exhibition has a little bit of everything from the abstract to the dark. Any art lover will just love this.

The Costa Blanca becomes the first tourist spot in the Spain

The attraction to the Costa Blanca is greater by the day, it is so, that this past summer for the first time it surpassed the Costa del Sol and again won by the number of tourist to the Costa Daurada, the island of Mallorca and had more Spaniards in its hotels than Madrid and Barcelona.

The tourism diversification, the sun and the beach have achieved 600,000 clients and in the months of July and August in the Costa Blanca.

During this month the national tourism is also experiencing excellent numbers, there is a 90% +registration account on all hotels and this is considered a low season and in November the reservations are already at 60%.

Artfutura arrives in Alicante in October

Digital art lovers are in luck, because the new digital technology and creativity festival Artfutura, that will be celebrating its eighteenth edition and that will be projected simultaneously in eleven Spanish cities between the 25th and 28th of October comes for the first time the CAM culture hall of Alicante.

Artfutura is without a doubt one of the most prestigious festivals in Spain as far as digital art is concerned. This year the program of activities will begin with a selection of the best three dimensional works produced this year.

The first day five episodes of the Australian series “Pod Love”, which explores the effects of digital communication and the friendship and couple relationship, will be broadcast.

The program will continue with e “8 bit” documentary that examines the influence videogames has on contemporary culture, and the projection of the works of the finalists in the “3D” contest in Spain..

The exhibit will end with a retrospective view of the work of Marcel·lí Antúnez, a very well know artist in the digital animation field.

The secon season of the series “Benidorm” is now being filmed

A few months a go we talked about a new British TV series called “Benidorm” and now the British TV chain will start taping the second season of this fun show right here in the capital of Marina Baixa. The first season was able to capture between seven and eight million spectators.

The taping of the new season started last Monday with a scheduled total of eight episodes. The series talks about the happening of a middle class family, and their vacations in the Alicante region.

The first season was taped in Benidorm making the actors well know around the Benidorm area.

20% of Benidorm visitors come from the UK, which represents 90% of the foreign

Elena Misó exhibits her photos of the Mali in Benidorm

Today I propose a cultural activity, although with a certain social content. It seems that the exhibition hall at the CAM of Benidorm welcomes until the 10th of October the collection of photographs of Mali, for the art and the tradition until Sabou by the author Elena Misó.

 

This interesting exhibit counts with around 120 photographs in three different formats and two projections, which realize a trip through the views of Black Africa.

Everyone interested should visit the exhibition hall of the CAM which is located in Calle Alameda 17 in Benidorm. The visiting hours are from 6pm until 9pm, Monday through Saturday.

The Principal Theater plans 33 first level shows

Like in the past, the Principal Theater of Alicante has designed a luxury program for the upcoming fall-winter season, that will be composed of 33 first class acts. The performances will include theater, song, ballet and musicals that will take center stage until January 2008.Among the jewels of the program are the national premier of “La Sospecha”, starring Pilar Bardem and “Mentiras, incienso y mirra” directed by Juan Luis Iborra, as well as performances by Dulce Pontes.

The season will open September 25th with a lyrical gala in which the Principal Theater will commemorate its 160th anniversary and in which the soprano Sandra Fernandez and the tenor Jose Sempere will interpret pieces from “La Bohème”, “El Gato Montés” and “La leyenda del beso”.

The theatrical program will also include one of the six representations that will be realized in Spain of the Juan Mayorga “Freda”, with Ana Belén and Fran Perea. To that we add “Closer”, with the alicantina Belén Rueda; the monologue of  Thaddeus Phillips in “El conquistador”; the humor of Fele Martínez in “Solomillo, a story made by her”; “El guía del hermitage”, with Federico Luppi, and the representation in valenciano of “Utopía Marivaux”, among others..

The Santa Barbara Castle recuperates its tourist ancestors

The tourists who visit Alicante starting tomorrow will be able to recuperate one of the attractions most visited in the city without any extra effort because Alicante City Hall plans to open the tourist elevator with access to the Santa Barbara Castle.The end to walking up the million stairs because the elevator had been closed for several months due to a problem which needed to be fixed. The walk to the top of the castle took about half an hour so we should all be thankfully that the elevator is finally working.

The repair has been completed and they are now running various tests with the objective to open it officially to the public next Wednesday.

Renting a home in Alicante might be cheaper than buying one

Mortgages in the past few months are becoming one of the main reasons people are coming up short at the end of the month due to the rising Euribor. The average mortgage in Alicante supposes 679 euros a month while a rental is only 582 euros.

Nevertheless, renting is not cheap either, in many areas of Alicante and Benidorm buying is still more profitable. As far as prices as concerned Benidorm has areas with the highest rental fees in the province at 10, 95 euros per square meter, compared to the 4,20 in Elda.

In the bigger localities of the Costa Blanca the medium prices are as follows: Alcoy, 409 euro; Alicante, 798 euros; Benidorm, 718 euros; Elche, 550 euros; Elda, 378 euros; Orihuela, 572 euros; San Vicente, 692 euros; Torrevieja, 596 euros.
