The local Fallera committee of Benidorm is here to do what it needs to do: To promote the party and celebrate our Mediterranean character. Proof of this is their fantastic Paella contest that brought together twenty four groups yesterday to make this delicious and traditional meal that is made in this part of the world like nowhere else.
This contest is in anticipation of the celebrations to come from the Benidorm Fallas. Two huge paellas were also made in addition to the contest ones to invite anyone who was interested in the spirit of these celebrations, or anywhere just walking by taking a sniff of the delicious paella scent along with the music which called out to all.
Paella wasn’t the only main course, Gazpacho Manchego was also in hand although a great sangria would have been great to with the weather we have been having, this complete meal didn’t leave anyone hungry.
I don’t think tourist come only for the sun anymore our gastronomy also keeps them coming back for more.

March 31st is just around the corner and we will have Shakira the Colombian singer right here in Torrevieja, with her Oral Fixation Tour. A concert where rhythm and dance are guaranteed, a concert to enjoy. Shakira has become a super star not only in Latin countries but in the Unites States as well and now Seat has just hired the singer to compose songs for their commercials, this girl has it all.
I think this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see this artist perform and at the same time enjoy these great springtime evenings where you can be free to dance the night away in the cool breeze. And we are keeping our fingers crossed that the cosmic energies will be able to bring Madonna to Benidorm.. no need to see Shakira again. (well, maybe some do..)

Hotel Room is the book of poems by Cristina Peri Rossi that enchanted the judges in the last edition of the poetry awards of Torrevieja, one of the most prestigious awards in Spain.
What is the book about? It talks about nights in different hotels I have stayed in. The nostalgia, celebrations, memories, blind dates, cities, frailty, the trips…
I think its worth giving it a look..

Now is the time. Because even though you can go in car, you need to go there walking, and because in August it is extremely hot to be anywhere other than the beach. That is why now we should take advantage of these Holy Week holidays and go up to the old part of town and the Ereta Park. You will discover one of the most beautiful perspective of the city and although we haven’t tried it yet it is probably a perfect place to watch the firework displays at the end of June.

The light of Alicante in the spring is spectacular, the sunsets are a postcard and the Ereta park is an enchanting place to be enjoyed in the company of friends and loved ones. It has its own restaurant, cultural and exhibition center as well as the holding one of the most beautiful architectural designs not very well know through Alicante.
Go ahead, go up from the “barrio’ by San Antón until you reach Parque de la Ereta.

Holy week in Alicante is one of the most splendid holidays in Spain. Dozens of brotherhoods come out in procession, followed by the “manolas” and the musical bands in a ritual that is full of emotion that covers entire streets of the city. Each day there are processions of two, three brotherhoods all leading up to the most spectacular in the neighborhood of San Antón, in the old part of town, known as the famous procession of the Santa Cruz church, which covers the uphill lift through the old fisherman area of Alicante making this one of the hardest procession, but one of the most emotional one.
Once the processions of the day are over, it is time to live the holiday in the night life of Alicante with the typical tapas, fried fish, beer and enjoying life surrounded by one of the most fascinating holidays of the Spanish culture.

The weather has just been great these past days, Holy week is the first week of April (the 5th is already holy Thursday) and I think this year we will be able to take a splash on the beach earlier than usual in the coast relaxing with the family, and you know what our recommendation for this time is going to be.. Benidorm. As you know booking a room this time of year is not easy (most people are already making their summer reservations) so, if you are planning to spend your spring break in Benidorm you better book now. Benidorm will not let you down. This time of year is one of the best due to the great weather and holy week festivities which are a wonderful experience.

You have a date in the city of Valencia from the 1st through the 19th of March, starting at 14:00, the Mascletá. A spectacular pyrotechnic show that will leave you speechless (and maybe a little deaf), all in preparation for the last days of the biggest holiday in this city on the 14th through the 19th.
The Mascletá lasts about 8 minutes and is held in from the City Hall. You need to experience the mascletá live once or more in your life. The sound of the thunderous noise along with all the festivities, people and ambience are what makes The Fallas in Valencia one of the most famous Festivals in Spain and the world.

Here is a quick curious note of the day. There is a stand in Benidorm which has just received the ISO9000 certification for quality. Stand number 15 in Benidorm is one of the most frequented due to its centric tourist location within the city.
To be able to attain this certification it was necessary to surpass the supervision of a handful of consultants that acted as secret shoppers, personnel specialized in the rating the shopping process by taking into account, the customer service, store appearance, product quality etc. and Stand 15 passed all tests with flying colors.
This is an achievement being that the stand is in one the busiest tourist locations where many English tourist buy tobacco at bulk and resell in their country due to the high tax cost of buying tobacco in the UK. With the money they earn they could easily buy a few more airfares and taxi rides from there to here..although the way prices are heading nowadays the plane ride might just be cheaper than the taxi ride from the airport.

If you are wondering if I made a huge spelling mistake, fear not, Mig Any signifies “half year’, and that is the cause for all the celebration in Denia, there is a half year until the Moors and Christian Fiesta is celebrated again. There are what are called Filás (meaning single file) which are the members of each party standing side by side marching at the beat of a drum. There are drinks, food, just about everything this celebration is all about.. but you will have to wait six more months to fully enjoy the entire procession which brings along the beautiful costumes and cultural celebrations.
