Museums of Benidorm

Posted by syameses on 27 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: museums, benidorm

Some of the most interesting museums can be found in Benidorm (with the exception of the Museum of Miniatures of Max in Guadalets, Alicante). They are not serious museums, they are fun and a great way to enjoy museums with kids who will love all the oddities.

  • Wax Museum in Benidorm: Elvis, David Bisbal, Chaplin, Salvador Dalí and at least 130 figures of popular celebrities of all times. The only wax museum in Alicante, and next to Madrid the only two wax museums in Spain.A great opportunity to enjoy these real life wax sculptures.
  • Museum of lead soldiers: The soldiers are living in a boom, now that the classical concept is seen in games such at Rol, in which the dragon figures, knights and strange lead creatures are collected and carefully painted. This museum has over 2,000 figurines that all the collection will love.
  • Agriculture Museum: a more serious museum, whose main objective is to obtain and show the history agriculture and fishing in a town such as Benidorm.
  • The museum House: built about 100 years a go and located in the center of Benidorm.

The new sports arena in Altea could have your name, tomorrow is your opportunity

Posted by syameses on 27 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: entertainment, curiosities

The spectacular new Sports arena located in Altea is celebrating its grand opening tomorrow the 28th of February and in honor of this huge event they are planning on personalizing its 3,008 seats with the name of the person who sits in them for the first time.

Therefore, during the next years, whomever sits in each chair will know who sat there for the first time. I think its a great idea, history making that years from now will be very interesting. Also, a great incentive to have as many people as possible come and view this magnificent place. but that is not the only reason to attend tomorrow, you will also enjoy a great basketball game between Etosa Alicante and Pamesa Valencia.

Benidorm concerts jam. An example: Lenny Kravitz summer 2005

Posted by syameses on 27 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: entertainment, festival, benidorm

We still don´t know if Skakira or Madonna will be scheduled to appear in Benidorm this year (most likely Il Divo the mega hit band will be the ones to show up), but what is a fact is that summer concerts in Benidorm are for the public, where they are able to enjoy great music and greater environment. Benidorm is a quiet town that enjoys its great climate and good life of the Mediterranean, a welcoming city that is the perfect stage to host all the macro concerts of international superstars.

2005 was a great year for concerts aside from lenny Kravitz, Hombres G also took on the stage, below a video to remind you

Whatever you taste for music, you are sure to enjoy a concert or two here in Benidorm

Gandaf and Benidorm together courtesy of the Chanante Hour

Awesome, like everything that the Chanante Hour offers us. The humor program most twisted and unsuspected that you can see on Paramount Comedy and whose actors also work on the well known Camera Café (Telecinco), Cuatrosfera (Channel 4 ), and A Pelo (channel 6), etc.

Their off the wall comedy is shown in the following video, just take a quick peek and see what I´m taking about.

I´m going to Benidorm from the Nikis

Posted by syameses on 27 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: entertainment, beaches, benidorm

Without a doubt the great musical contribution to Benidorm aside from Julio Iglesias, has been the group the Nikis. With their 1989 CD titled “My girl has left to Benidorm” and the megahit “I´m going to Benidorm”.  They say the 80´s are back in style and if they are then the Nikis sure to make a come back.

Benidorm was the central theme for their CD and it was reflected in two other songs. Below are the lyrics to “I´m going to Benidorm” in Spanish the song is titled “Voy a Benidorm”.

Na na na na na na na na na na na na voy a Benidorm.
Na na na na na na na na na na na na voy a Benidorm.
Voy, voy a Benidorm (voy a Benidorm).
            Voy, voy, voy…
            Voy a Benidorm.

Na na na na na na na na na na na na voy a Benidorm.
Na na na na na na na na na na na na voy a Benidorm.
Voy, voy a Benidorm (voy a Benidorm).
            Voy, voy, voy…
            Voy a Benidorm.

Me voy a Benidorm, me voy a Benidorm, me voy a Benidorm.
Me voy a Benidorm, me voy a Benidorm, me voy a Benidorm.
            Me voy a Benidorm…

Na na na na na na na na na na na na voy a Benidorm.
Na na na na na na na na na na na na voy a Benidorm.
Voy, voy a Benidorm (voy a Benidorm).
            Voy, voy, voy…

Me voy a Benidorm, me voy a Benidorm, me voy a Benidorm.
Me voy a Benidorm, me voy a Benidorm, me voy a Benidorm.
            Me voy a Benidorm…

            Marejada variable fuerza seis,
            arreciando a fuerte marejada.
Se han hundido a 1.200 pies,
en el agua no ha quedado nada.

            La Armada Invencible está sumergida,
Medina Sidonea se quita la vida.
Todos, todos, todos, todos, todos, todos
            quieren ¡Venganza! ¡Venganza! ¡Venganza!

Felipe II está en un convento…
El no envió sus naves contra los elementos…

            ¡Venganza! ¡Venganza! ¡Venganza!
            ¡Venganza! ¡Venganza! ¡Venganza!

Frida Kahlo at the CAM

Posted by syameses on 27 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: museums, alicante

One of the most important Mexican artists of our times Frida Kahlo had a rough life full of illness that left her exhausted by the end of her life. Her paintings fundamentally represent her personal experiences. All her hardships are represented in her paintings.

Now until the 18th of march you can see the exhibition of this great artist in the CAM hall.

Posted by syameses on 27 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: entertainment, theater, alicante

The marvelous Argentinean dancer Julio Bocca who turns 40 this year, says goodbye to the stage. A real shame for all the devoted fans like myself who have been following his art form for many years.

But before all this happens he will dance in the Principal Theater of Alicante with his repertoire of Adiós, Hermano Cruel. If you want to see this genious at work you need to hurry because tickets are all about gone. His last performance here is Spain will be March 13th at 20:30 hours.

The Oscar winner for best score for the Diarios de Motocicleta, Jorge Drexler will perform tomorrow in the University of Alicante. He will sing songs from his latest cd 12 seconds in the darkness. At what time? at 20;15, you will need to get there as soon as you can because it might be hard to get in.

A great concert for this weekend the last of February.

Live an underwater archeological adventure

Posted by syameses on 25 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: beaches, travel, curiosities, alicante, benidorm, sports

The history of the civilizations was written at the shore of the Mediterranean. Phoenicians, Romans, Greeks, and Persians.. all have left their cultural mark in the coastal cities of the Mediterranean, in fishing ports, cities, and naturally in the commercial marine area.

Because of this it is not unusual to find roman amphora’s while scuba diving, used to transport oil and wine from the levante coasts to the entire empire. Also ancient sunken ships with treasures still inside as well as ceramic pieces such as plates and navigation utensils.  Scuba diving is a fun sport but finding underwater treasures  throughout the Costa Blanca makes it that much more exciting.

For Example, the coasts of Alicante hide the Roman sub aquatic deposits more important in the entire west of  Mediterranean.
